Bowes Radio Station
The Bowes Cast
The children chose the name, and we love it!
The opening of our primary school radio station was a truly memorable event, marked by the return of a former pupil who is now a professional footballer. His presence inspired everyone, showcasing the potential within our school community. The highlight of the day was when he cut the ribbon to officially open the station, an act that symbolised the start of an exciting new chapter for our pupils. The headteacher then conducted a live interview with him, broadcast directly to all the classrooms. The children listened in awe as he shared stories of his journey, from sitting in the same classrooms to achieving his dreams. It was a moment of pride and motivation, reminding our pupils that with determination and effort, they can also achieve greatness.
Having a radio station at our school offers numerous benefits, fostering creativity, communication skills, and confidence amongst our children. It provides a platform for children to express themselves, share ideas, and explore topics of interest, enhancing their verbal and listening skills.
The collaborative nature of managing a radio station encourages teamwork, responsibility, and time management, as children take on roles such as scriptwriting, hosting, and technical operation. It also serves as a dynamic learning tool, integrating subjects like language arts, technology, and social studies in engaging ways.
We also aim for our station to strengthen the school community by broadcasting announcements, celebrating achievements, and involving parents and local stakeholders, creating a sense of pride and connection.
